A Sneak Preview

I’ve had a few questions on my latest project that I’ve been working on for a few months now. I’ve kept it pretty quiet for a few reasons, not the least of which is that we didn’t have enough done to show anything to anybody. But, as we are getting very close to launch date, you can now check out a couple of web sites for “A Healthy Back in Ten Minutes a Day”.

Notice I said ‘we’. I’m partnering on this project with Bill Millios, owner of Back Lot Films, Inc. and friend of 25+ years. While I’m pretty much in charge of developing the content, Bill is in charge of the creation and production of the video content and DVDs. We are sharing the marketing duties.

Make Your Resolution Stick This Time

Well, it is that time of year again when people everywhere tell themselves that “this year, I really will lose weight.” Of course, most of them said that last year as well. The gym will be crowded for the next two weeks, full of new faces, and then come January 15, you’ll be able to get a parking space right in front of the door. Face it, New Year’s resolutions rarely work. Flipping the calendar does not magically allow some deep-hidden motivation and resolve to suddenly manifest itself. If you didn’t want to do this in October, what is different in January?

That does not mean you can’t finally lose that weight this year though. What it means is you need to do it for the right reasons and with the right motivation. Telling yourself something lame like “I’m going to be good after the first of the year” won’t work. Didn’t work last year, did it? Won’t work this year either. Stop focusing on the “New Year” or “the first of the year” or “January 1st”. The date isn’t important. (As the old African proverb states: “The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is today.”) Just focus on your goal, and start performing behavior congruent with your goal today.

Whose Program Are You Doing? Mine or Yours?

One of the first things new clients or prospects want to know is how much weight they will lose, and how long will it take. Of course, every individual is different, so there really is no succinct answer to that. What I usually tell them is something along the lines of “If you follow the program I put together for you, you can safely lose up to 1-2 pounds of fat per week”, (assuming of course this is a client with fat loss as a goal). The important part of that is “If you follow the program I put together for you.”

Whether I design a program for a client, or if they use my “17-Week Body Transformation Course” or “The Caveman’s Guide to Fitness”, sometimes they decide to make their own seemingly minor modifications to the program. “Well, I really didn’t like exercise X, so I did exercise Y instead.” “I could only work out 1 day last week instead of 3, but I worked out 5 times this week to make up for it.” “Instead of giving myself a cheat day, I just gave myself one little cheat snack each day.” “I was too sore to do the resistance training, so I ran on the treadmill instead.” “Your routine was too hard, so I toned it down a bit.”
