One of the reasons people fail at weight loss is that when they decide on their target, they fail to think about the path to get there. It’s probably best if I explain this with an example.
Let’s say you decide you want to lose 30lbs in six months. That’s a pretty reasonable number and time frame to do it in. Then how come 90%+ of those who would set this goal would never reach it? Because they are only looking at the end, not the road that will take them there.
If you want to lose 30lbs, that can sound like an insurmountable number as you sit there. If 30lbs is the top of the mountain, and you’re at the bottom, it can seem like it will be impossible to climb that high. And if you allow yourself to think that way, it will be impossible.
If you are going to climb a mountain, how will you get from the bottom to the top?
One step at a time.
Don’t focus on the peak of the mountain, just focus on the task at hand, which is taking the next step forward. Eventually, by repeating that process enough times, you’ll find yourself at the top of the mountain.
So, if you are going to lose 30lbs, how will you do it?
One pound at a time.
Losing 1 – 2 lbs per week through exercise and proper nutrition is doable for most people. So, don’t worry about all 30lbs. Just focus on the next 2 lbs this week. With focus and a clear number in your head, anyone can lose 1 – 2 lbs this week.
Then, next week, you can repeat the process and focus on the next 2lbs. Before you know it, you’ll be at 30lbs, maybe with time to spare in your 6 month time frame.
