If you’ve followed me for even the shortest amount of time, you know that I think most supplements are a total waste of time and money. If you want six pack abs, they won’t come in a bottle. They come from eating right and exercising.
BUT…
There is some very promising research out there in regards to one dietary supplement that I do think everyone should take.
Again, if you follow me, you’ve probably already guessed that I’m talking about Essential Fatty Acids. You probably have heard them called something like EFAs, or maybe Fish Oil pills.
Check this out. University of Georgia researchers(1) have found something pretty amazing about Essential Fatty Acid supplements containing DHA. (FYI, DHA stands for docosahexaenoic acid. I pronounce that D-H-A.)
What they found was that these EFA supplements can actually help STOP the conversion of pre-fat cells into fat cells by causing them to die out before they can mature.
Doesn’t sound pleasant, but the reality is that once a pre-fat cell becomes a fat cell, well, there’s no turning back. You’ve got that fat cell for life. But, taking an EFA (containing adequate amounts of DHA) can actually stop some fat cells before they start.
Good stuff.
But wait, there’s more! (Trying to sound like Billy Mays…)
According to studies done at the University of South Australia(2) people that combined exercise with EFA supplements containing DHA saw greater fat loss than the test group that only exercised and did not take the supplement.
Sounds pretty good, don’t you think?
Of course, EFA’s have a host of other benefits that I’ve covered previously, so with this research thrown on top, I’m not sure why anyone wouldn’t take an EFA daily. I know I do. (If you’re curious, here’s the brand that I take.)

PS – Remember, taking an EFA supplement is NOT a miracle solution. You still need to follow a sound nutrition and exercise program. BUT the research is there. It’s definitely a supplement with fat loss properties.
