It’s Time for Your New Year’s Resolution

Happy New Year from DaveSoucy.com.

Okay, I know it’s not New Years.  In fact, as I write this, it’s about – there’s about 13 weeks or so left until New Years.  But I’m willing to bet some of you reading this have already begun to think about what your New Year’s resolution will be come January 1, 2010.

And maybe some of you haven’t yet, because, well because it’s not even October yet.

Well, guess what?  Doesn’t matter if you have or haven’t thought about it.  If you’re the type of person who makes a New Year’s resolution every year, I can already tell you what it’s going to be this year.  Ready?…. Drum roll please……

It’s going to be…

the same thing as last year’s resolution.

You see, most people make the same resolution (losing weight, eating right, exercising more, etc.) year after year for the simple reason that they didn’t succeed with it last year.  New Years’ resolutions don’t work because flipping the calendar to January 1st doesn’t magically endow you with the drive and determination to succeed.  If you’re not motivated to succeed with your goal now, you won’t be motivated to succeed with it then either.

So what should you do?

Don’t wait till January.  Why start a New Years’ resolution January 1st if you’re thinking about it today?  And now that I’ve mentioned it, you are thinking about it today.

You’ve got 13 weeks left.  Why let those 13 weeks of your life slip by while you get further out of shape?  That’s crazy.  Instead of setting a New Years’ resolution that you start on New Years, make New Years Day your target completion.  You’ve got 13 weeks to make serious improvement in your life.

Even if you barely even did anything you can lose a pound a week over the next 13 weeks.  Think about that, what if you weigh 13 pounds less on New Years Day than you do right now?  Wouldn’t that just kick ass?

Put your mind to it and you could lose two pounds a week.  Imagine if you were 24 pounds lighter on New Years Eve.  How great would you feel going to your New Year’s Eve party, seeing people you haven’t seen in a while, 24 pounds lighter, 16 pounds lighter, 10 pounds lighter, even 5 pounds lighter than you are right now?

Don’t even try to tell me you wouldn’t want to do that.

So, don’t waste the next few months of your life thinking that when you flip the calendar to January 1, that’ll be the time to start getting in shape.  Sorry Buttercup, but that will just set you up to fail.

Be different, be better than all your friends who are going to set lame New Years resolutions, and beat em to the punch.  January 1st is now your goal for your New Years resolution, not your start date.
