Have You Tried These Weight Loss Tricks?

In shape woman stretching | Weight Loss

Have you ever considered any of these things to jump start your weight loss?

  • Drinking ice water with lemon juice.
  • Not eating anything after 7PM.
  • Doing cardio on an empty stomach first thing in the morning.
  • Eating lots of celery because it’s a “negative calorie” food.
  • Drinking green tea because it helps with weight loss.
  • Using light weights when working out because you just want to get ‘toned’.

If you’re having trouble with weight loss and are wondering if any of these things could help you out, the answer is “No”.  Please stop looking for a little trick or gimmick that will be the thing that finally helps you lose weight. Tricks or gimmicks won’t do it.

Sure, if you’re already at your goal and you’re looking for that extra 1% that will knock your body fat percentage from 9% down to 8.5%, you can try out tricks and gimmicks. But if you’re nowhere near your goal and struggling to start losing any weight, tricks and gimmicks won’t work.

There are three things you need to master in order to live healthy, lose fat, and get the body you want:

  1. Get your head on straight. If you don’t have the right mindset, a positive one geared for success, nothing else will matter.
  2. Learn to eat right. Notice I didn’t say find the perfect fad diet. Eating like crap, going on a diet, and then going back to eating like crap is why most people gain back whatever weight they lose. Focus on being healthy, not on being thin. Learn to eat for health, and thin will come.
  3. Follow a well-designed exercise program consistently. If fat loss is your goal, follow a program designed for fat loss. That doesn’t mean jumping on the treadmill to read People Magazine and watch Oprah for an hour. That is not a fat loss workout. If you don’t know what a fat loss workout looks like, go here.

You can eat all the freaking celery in the world and it won’t matter one bit if you don’t master these three basics first. I’d love to hear your thoughts below.

ps – I guarantee you the woman in the picture doesn’t look that way because she makes sure to munch on celery and drink lemon water every day.

I generally agree with what you said - except one thing...
Doing cardio in the morning is a proven way to burn bodyfat. AND it shows tremendous discipline and determination, which most probably will be present in every other aspect as well.
  • Hi Alex,
thanks for the comment. I agree with you on the discipline and determination part. In fact, I personally exercise in the morning and recommend it if a person's schedule allows it because it removes the opportunity for excuses to pop up during the day.
As far as a 'proven' way to burn bodyfat, sure it burns bodyfat, but there really isn't any research that proves fasted cardio will provide the average person with more bodyfat loss than cardio in a non-fasted state. (What research actually shows is that steady state cardio is a lousy way to lose bodyfat, but that's a subject for a different post.)
Sure, you can find a study here or there that will say, under the ideal conditions of the study, that it will result in a slight difference, but there are just as many, if not more, studies that will say the opposite.
Bottom line though, in the real world with real people, it just doesn't make any significant difference. Someone doing fasted cardio will see no difference in results vs the person doing cardio after having a couple of eggs. The important part isn't when you do it, just that you do it.

  • I am ashamed to admit it but I have tried all of those! I think when we are overweight and have alot to lose we get desperate to find the quick fix. It is hard to accept that it will take time, lots of time to lose the weight, and a lifetime to keep it off.
The only time I have had good results is when it is based around healthy eating habits, no gimmicks, not craziness, just healthy. Along those lines the reason I am back at it again is because I went right back to eating crap!
  • No reason to be ashamed Shannon. You're certainly not alone! I'm pretty sure I tried all of them at one time or another in my 20s and 30s before I figured it out...:)

  • Yup, but that elusive magic bullet will just make everything so much easier...:)
  • It never ceases to amaze me the amount of mental energy people put into trying to cheat their way thin when just a little physical energy will get the results they want.
