Is Your Happiness Tied to Weight Loss?

weight loss frustrationIf you’re looking to lose weight, what do you hope will be different once you do? What do you expect will happen?

Will you be happier?

Will you love yourself more?

Will other people love you more?

Will you feel more confident?

Will you go out more?

Will you feel more comfortable in social settings?

Will you feel more comfortable in the way you dress?

Is that what you’re looking for when you lose weight?  If so, have you ever asked yourself why any of those things need to wait until you lose weight?

Why can’t you be more comfortable now?

Why can’t you act more confidently now?

Why can’t you be more outgoing and loving now?

Why don’t you let people love you more now?

What does your weight have to do with any of those things? Nothing really.

The only place it does is in your mind, but it doesn’t have to.  You can choose to be more confident right now.  Confidence doesn’t have to be tied to your physical stature.  Confidence can be how you present yourself, how you speak, how you project, how you engage and communicate with other people.

I know you don’t really believe that all confident people are thin.  Plenty of them aren’t.  And on the flip side, plenty of thin people out there suffer from a lack confidence as well.

Even though you may have convinced yourself it is, it really isn’t about your weight.  Confidence, along with all of the other items listed above, is about what goes on between your ears.

Tell yourself you lack confidence, you will lack confidence.  Tell yourself you’re unlovable, you’ll be unlovable.  Tell yourself you’re not happy, you’ll be unhappy.  But, regardless of your weight, you can turn all of these around and experience exactly the opposite if you choose to.

Confidence doesn’t have to be based on what size pants you wear.

I totally agree! If we cannot get in a good place mentally while we are over weight we will just be a screwed up thin person.
I just barely posted yesterday that I believe weight loss is 90% mental and 10% everything else. It is easy to eat right and exercise if you compare it to how hard it is to really love yourself.
    Great post Dave!

    Thanks Shannon,
you're right, if people get the mental part down, everything else is pretty simple.
