Don,
I absolutely agree that people should involve others when trying to make lifestyle changes. Social support is a huge factor in the ability to succeed.

I disagree with the notion that people are truly addicted to shitty food. Heroin, yes. Painkillers, sure. Booze, certainly. Processed food, doubt it. They can give it up, but are making a conscious choice not to because to them, the alternative (weight loss, better health, etc.) simply isn't a big enough prize.

I also disagree that healthy food tastes horrible. Taste is subjective, and just because you find it horrible doesn't mean you can make a blanket generalization and expect me to accept it. I had a very healthy fruit and veggie smoothie with protein and healthy fats for breakfast today that rocked. Had leftover chicken with grilled veggies and hummus for lunch that was great. Pecans, cashews, pistachios, sunflower seeds, and an orange for a snack. Dinner was fish, shrimp and more veggies. Awesome. None of it tasted horrible and all of it blew away the SAD.

~Dave

The reason people go back to their SAD diet is because they're addicted to it. Let's face it, healthy food often tastes horrible, especially if you're used to eating foods rich in fat, sugar and salt.

Many people simply can't change their diet without help. One of the biggest mistakes people make when changing their diet is not involving other people.

Dave, great comments about ways people can just use simple guidelines to lose the weight. I think liquid calories is grossly overlooked by most.

Great blog :-)

Lisa
