Do You Really Want to Lose Ten Pounds?

Weight loss

When it comes to weight loss, people will often have goals like “I want to lose ten pounds” or “I want to fit into these pants that I used to fit into.”

You need to be really clear on what your true weight loss goals are.

If your weight loss goals sound similar, you’ve got to step back for a second and think.

Will you really be happy if you lose ten pounds?  Why?  What is it about losing ten pounds will make you happy?

Considering the fact that probably nobody other than you knows how much you weigh, is losing ten pounds really your goal?

Your weight is just a number, and whether it is ten pounds lower or higher, you’re still the only person who knows what that number is.  If you lose ten pounds and look exactly the same as you do now, are you really going to be happy?

And what about those old pants you want to fit into.  If you can fit into those pants, is that going to bring you a big pile of joy?  Those must be some special freaking pants.

You do realize nobody other than you knows what size they are, right?  And you do realize they probably sell a pair that fits properly and that would make you look better than squeezing into the old ones will, right?

Do you really think anyone will give a shit if you lose ten pounds? Nobody knows what you weigh now, so nobody will know what you weigh if you lose ten pounds.  So that really isn’t all that important, is it?

Hmmm, so what is important to you?

  • You really want to look better naked, don’t ya?
  • You want to be healthier, don’t ya?
  • You want to feel better, don’t ya?
  • You want people to compliment you on the changes you’ve made, don’t ya?

Who cares what the number on the scale is?  It doesn’t really have anything to do with these things, does it?

Maybe losing ten pounds isn’t the real goal.

Maybe the goal is to look better.  Maybe the real goal is to be a size 6 or have a 32 inch waist.  Maybe the real goal is to get your blood pressure under control.

Losing ten pounds might get you all of these things.  But there’s also a pretty good chance that losing ten pounds doesn’t get you any of them.

So, be clear on what your true weight loss goal really is, because if you’re not, you might get to where you think you want to be, only to find out it really isn’t going to make you that happy after all.
