
You can’t turn on the news, pick up a magazine, or read the paper without seeing a new message telling you that you can’t lose weight.
Daily we’ve got new studies telling us that we’re destined to be obese because sugar is as addictive as drugs; fast food alters our brains, forcing us to eat more and more of it; they found a gene hidden somewhere in a rat’s DNA that controls a switch that determines if you’ll be fat or not; if we don’t ‘cleanse’ toxins will build up in our colons and cause us to be fat; exercise makes us eat more so it will actually make you gain weight; dropping testosterone levels as we age make weight loss impossible; restaurant marketing tricks you into eating more; and on, and on, and on…
Holy fuck. Apparently we’re screwed.
Well, you’re certainly screwed if you keep listening to and believing the assbags in the media who report this stuff on a daily basis. Stop listening to them. Shut them out. Change the channel. Buy different magazines. Put the newspaper down for the dog.
None of this has anything to do with you and your ability to lose fat, get healthy, get fit, eat right, exercise, feel better, look better, sleep better, run a 5k, whatever.
Unless you let it.
You must stop listening to these people. The only way this stuff will keep you from losing weight is if you start believing all of it. Your body can only do what your brain tells it to do, so if you start to believe you’re addicted to fast food and as such can’t possibly lose weight, well you’ll be right.
And if you wait until tomorrow, they’ll be new research giving you yet another excuse to not do anything.
(BTW, there’s a very good reason we have all of these new studies every day. They allow everyone from giant pharmaceutical companies to organized crime to petty scammers to come up with new miracle cures for the supposed problems discovered by these studies. But that’s another post for another day.)
But the truth is you can choose to lose weight.
That’s right. It’s a choice.
I’m not saying it’s an easy choice, but it is your choice nonetheless. You can choose to stop eating shit. You can choose to eat healthy food. You can choose to stop hoping miracle diets, pill, or gimmicks will help. You can choose to exercise or participate in regular physical activity. You can choose to get enough sleep. You can choose not to abuse your body with cigarettes and excess alcohol.
And you can choose to shut off the news, get off the couch, and start doing something today.
Accept that, and no matter what the talking heads say, you can lose weight. Don’t accept that, then it just ain’t going to happen.
