
I work out.
Big surprise.
So, why do I work out?
I’m not looking to bench 500lbs.
I’m not interested in packing on 30lbs of muscle.
I’m not entering any kettlebell competitions.
I’m not going to be an airbrushed fitness model on the cover of a magazine.
I’m not in need of improving my 40 time.
I’m not trying to pick up girls in bars.
And my vertical leap is just fine for my needs.
I work out because…
- I feel better when I do.
- I’ve got two herniated disks and plan on treating them with exercise instead of surgery.
- I want to be strong.
- I believe that pushing my body in my workouts makes it work better when I’m not working out.
- back in my corporate life, I was a big, fat slob with no energy and poor health, and thanks, but I’m not interested in that any more.
- I like to.
- I believe if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.
- I want to be an example for my daughters.
- I plan on being around my family for a long time, and don’t want to drop from a heart attack when I’m 50.
And 50 isn’t so far off any more…

I work out because it makes me feel great and reduces stress. Losing and keeping 50 pounds off is a nice side benefit too.

“fitness” seemed to come easy when i was 20. and in my 30s, i still felt like i was in my 20s and could do all of the same things. But when I hit the 40s, it was pretty clear that i couldn’t even do the things I could in my 30s never mind younger than that! Most of your reasons are also valid for me too, and I certainly wouldn’t be doing it without PerfectFitOnline.com!

1) to not be disgusted when I see myself in the mirror (initial reason for starting)
2) to never again wear a pair of 36″ waist (I’m 5’9 so at 36″, my in-seam is 1/2 foot shorter than my waist, and that’s just wrong)
3) to survive working in an office
But, most importantly, because my mood stinks if I don’t work out one day.

Most people seem to accept that growing older means slowing down, gaining weight, not doing what they used to do, etc. I’m in better shape at 44 than I was at 30, and I’ll bet I’ll be able to say the same when I’m 50.
I’m also guessing the competitive nature of you and your wife has a little something to do with it… Just a guess.

The older I get, the more my body doesn’t seem to tolerate inactivity. The tolerances keep getting smaller. I keep moving to survive and try to thrive.
I’m looking to be able to move a bench.

and on a serious note-
I have 75% degenaration in my right knee and 30% degeneratio in my left knee, I have been able to significantly reduce the dose of amount of BP drugs I take along with no side effects and I want to live long enough to se my three nieces get married and have kids before I leave this life – heart attack scare at the age of 40 was a major wake up call -no health -no quality of no matter the money you bring in!
I love the feeling of pushing everything to the limit
down from 245lbs to 225 from January -I can fly… ok flop-:)

Bingo Dave. I work out because I don’t want to have a heart attack and die like my old man did at 53. I work out because it makes me feel good. I work out because I don’t want to be the fat trainer who sits there and tells people what to do instead of leading by example and being in shape myself.

Sorry about your dad Daniel, but if his example can inspire you and others to not go down the same path, at least something good can come of it.
Your’e not kidding 50 isn’t far off! I work out because:
1. I feel better and do everything better when I am working out. 2. I want to someday be able to do pullups, just for fun… 3. I have 6 kids and need to keep up with them 4. I love having biceps and being a girl! 5. I have seen my elderly mom surrender her health and happiness to a lack of activity and I don’t want that for myself. Plus, I’ve seen her naked – yikes. 6. I have miles to go before I sleep…
Even though my mom works out regularly and is in great shape, I can happily report that I’ve never seen her naked. I intend to keep it that way if possible.
I work out because I needed something to replace all the gnarly stuff I used to do to my body to regulate my emotions: food, cigarettes, alcohol, sitting in front of the TV…. It gives me 1-2 hours out of my day that are all mine. I look better, I feel better, I perform better. I grew up thin, got chubby and am now moving toward being classified only as “fit.” It feels too good to go back, you know?

I work out because it is my only “me” time! As a busy corporate mother of 3, my life is hectic! This takes the hectic out and I get an amazing endorphin kick to boot! You can’t beat that!
We all need to learn to take the hectic out once in a while…:)
