davetv from Dave SoucyI don’t care what any one else says. The mechanics of weight loss are truly very simple.

Eat properly, exercise regularly, focus on being healthy, and all will be well. Yes, it is that simple.

So don’t run out and try the next new diet. The last thing anyone needs is another freakin’ diet book. If the world never saw another diet book written, we’d all be just fine and we’d save a ton of trees in the process.

Instead of a diet book, I’ve got some better ideas on what you should be reading if you want to succeed with weight loss. Watch the video and I’ll tell you what they are, then make sure you let me know what you think by commenting below.

Here’s a great resource to get you started. Do a search on some people like Wayne Dyer, Mark Victor Hansen, Jim Rohn, etc.

davetv from Dave SoucyYou know there are plenty of great exercise, fitness, and weight loss programs out there.

Not the scams, fad diets, and gimmicks, but the real, legitimate programs that teach you how to eat right and exercise.

But, as good as they are, they are simply tools, and tools are not magical. It’s how you use the tool that really matters.

In the hands of a skilled craftsman, a router can do magical things. In my hands the results would be something less than magical.

No weight loss program is magical when it is in the wrong hands, but you can make any legitimate exercise and weight loss program magical if you really want to. Watch the video to find out where the real weight loss magic lies.

Here are some great fitness and weight loss programs that I’ve read (or created) and recommend. You need to supply your own magic to get results though.

20 Minute Workouts

Truth About Abs

The Diet Solution Program

Turbulence Training

DaveTV Episode 84 – Eating Right for Weight Loss

davetv from Dave SoucyI’m not big on diets or dieting for weight loss.

If you’ve watched any of my videos or read any of this blog, you already knew that. Dieting is a way to lose weight temporarily by eating wrong for a short period of time.

Yes, that is the official definition.

What I am big on is simply eating right. Of course, ‘eating right’ is sort of a loose term that can mean different things to different people. Someone might think eating Spam is ‘eating right’.

Well, I’ve got a very simple way for you to get a handle on the term. So simple, anyone can eat right as soon as tomorrow. Watch the video to find out what it is.

davetv from Dave SoucyHappy New Year! I hope you had a great 2009 and are looking forward to an even better 2010.

If you plan on starting off 2010 with a New Year’s resolution, I want you to stop. I don’t want you to stop whatever it is you plan on doing, I just want you to stop calling it a New Year’s resolution.

Why? Well, watch the video and find out.

davetv from Dave SoucyWhen people want to lose weight and get in shape, they usually spend all of their time worrying about how they are going to do it.

Which diet? Which exercise program? Which gadget? Which diet pill? Which guru will I listen to? What will I eat?

These are all the ‘hows’ of doing it.

If you really want to succeed, figure out the ‘why’ first, not the ‘how’.

davetv from Dave SoucyI’ve got two beautiful little daughters at home, ages 6 (just about 7) and 3 (not quite 4). Those of you with kids know what it can be like sometimes to get them to eat healthy food like vegetables.

If it was up to them, every day would be mac and cheese day.

That’s why it’s not up to them.

But I’ve found that with a lot of adults, maybe even the majority, their eating habits aren’t that different from kids’ eating habits. I’m pretty sure adults whine about eating vegetables as much as your average 3 year old does.

I will say my 7 year old is very good now at trying new things. In fact, she’s probably better at it than most adults out there. Watch the video and learn to try new things.

DaveTV Episode 80 – Why Not You?

davetv from Dave SoucyHave you ever run into a friend, relative, or coworker who has lost a bunch of weight and looks great?

How’d you feel when that happened? Did you feel a little self-conscious because you haven’t lost weight? Maybe feel a little sorry for yourself, lamenting “Why can’t I lose weight if she can??”

C’mon, you know you have. That’s alright, it’s normal. But, if you do want to lose weight like your friend did, you need to shut those feelings off quickly and change your thinking.

Watch the video to find out why and then please add your comments below.

davetvslugSo, it’s early December, and that means people start worrying about their weight loss efforts getting tubed by the holidays.

They just hope that they’ll have the willpower to avoid those holiday treats and feasts that would make a Viking proud. They’ve got a plan to fight temptation and get through this if it kills them.

Well, fighting temptation and relying on willpower will win you a few battles, but most likely you’ll lose the war on weight loss. Watch the video to find out why and then please add your comments below.

DaveTV Episode 78 – How to STOP Losing Weight

davetvslugI don’t talk about this very often, but sometimes people need to make changes so that they can STOP losing weight.

I know, sounds crazy, but it’s true.

Some people do so well with their weight loss efforts, that they actually have to work to get into maintenance mode. And there are right ways to do this, and wrong ways to do this. The video will explain some of the right ways.

And even if you’re not anywhere close to needing to be in maintenance mode yet, you hopefully will be eventually. So watch the video anyway.

davetvslugYes, in the US, it is Thanksgiving this week.

Are you worried that this day of traditional overindulgence will basically tube all of your weight loss efforts?

Will your fat loss come to a grinding halt due to the evil machinations of pumpkin pie?

Will you wake up Friday morning with a stuffing hangover that will have you seeking out Alka Seltzer and your fat pants that are hiding in the back of your closet?

This week’s video will tell you why none of that is going to happen.

~Dave

DaveTV Episode 76 – Stop Letting Food Control You

davetvslugDo you just hate it when people bring cake, candy, or other evil goodies into the office?

Do you have to force yourself to stay out of the lunchroom until said evil goodies have been devoured by others? Will you lose control if you walk in there and there is one lonely piece of cake left? Is the siren’s song from that cake simply too much for you to take?

If so, you have a problematic relationship with food. If you ever want to live in a fit, healthy body, you first need to address the control issues you have with food, specifically that you’re allowing food to control you.

DaveTV Episode 75 – Moving Beyond Baby Steps

Many people say that they want to lose weight and are going to make changes in their lives to get it done.

Unfortunately, often these people really aren’t ready to make real changes in their lives, and what they do instead is come up with a plan that involves making some minor, inconsequential change just so they can convince themselves that they are doing something.

Well, if that’s your plan, you better make sure you have Plan B ready to go.

DaveTV Episode 74 – Get Rid of Your Safety Net

It’s time to get rid of some of your old stuff.

I want you to go in your closet and find those ‘fat’ clothes you’ve been hanging onto ‘Just in case’.

Just in case what? Just in case you wasted all that time, energy, and effort learning how to eat right, exercise, and lose weight?

No chance Sparky.

If you’ve lost weight, there’s no ‘Just in case.’
It’s time for that stuff to go.

DaveTV Episode 73 – Empty Your Cup

davetvslugSo this week I get all Zen philosophical on you. Well, sort of.

Ok, maybe, maybe not.

But somewhere in my storytelling there is a message and that is sometimes, in order to finally learn the truth about something (in this case fat loss), you need to first forget what you’ve already learned.

Confused? Watch the video.

Watch the video.

The Body Transformation Course 2.0. Yeah, a shameless plug. Sue me. By the way, the program works great.

The Diet Solution Program by Isabel De Los Rios. Great nutrition info on healthy eating. I’m a big fan of Isabel’s stuff. The ad to the right probably tipped you off to that. Pretty simple message: Don’t eat crap, eat high quality food, with a lot of easy ways to do just that.

The Truth About Abs by Mike Geary. The biggest selling fitness program on the internet where again, it comes down to eating right and exercising.

Healthy Urban Kitchen by Antonio Valladares. If you’re looking for guidance and recipes for a program that’s organic, all natural, grass fed, gluten- and soy-free, then this is the one you’ll want to check out.

Easy Veggie Meal Plans by Kardena Pauza. No, I’m not a vegetarian, but I also stay away from factory farmed meat, poultry, and fish as much as possible (see “Why I’m Eating Less Meat”). Even if you’re still a committed omnivore, you’ll find a lot of great info and recipes in here.

Turbulence Training by Craig Ballantyne. Craig’s thoughts on cardio are right in line with mine, and he’s also big on not working out for hours at a time. We’ve got a lot of similar exercises in our programs, and while some of his routines might be easier to pull off in a gym, it’s certainly not a requirement.

DaveTV Episode 72 – Create Your Vision Board

Let’s face it, if weight loss was as simple as calories in vs. calories out, we wouldn’t have 70% of the population overweight or obese.

While the mechanical side of weight loss is basically that simple, the mental or psychological side of weight loss really has the final say in whether or not you will be successful with your weight loss efforts.

The problem with that is that most people keep their heads filled with negative thoughts and images about the way they look, which is why most people don’t succeed with long term weight loss.

Here’s a simple trick to start reprogramming your brain to get around that problem. Watch the video for details.

Back in my old corporate days, when I was a VP working for a big internet company, I had a simple rule for my employees:

They couldn’t simply come into my office with problems.

I had enough problems of my own to deal with, I didn’t need to fix theirs.

If they had a problem they wanted to discuss with me, they knew they also better have at least put some thought into a solution to go with it. Maybe the solution needed more work, or my approval, which was fine as long as they weren’t just coming in to bitch about the problem.

For some of you, I’m taking away your right to bitch. Watch the video to learn why.

davetv from Dave SoucySomeone asked me what they should choose if they get stuck having to go to McDonald’s or some other fast food dive for lunch. Are there better options on the menu that they could choose so that they would’t tube their nutrition plan for the day?

Well, the politically correct answer is that you just need to choose a salad or a potato instead of a burger, and don’t cover it in dressing or blah blah blah blah…

So much for political correctness.

There’s a better answer. Watch the video to see what it is, then let me know if you think I’m on target or off base by leaving a comment below.

DaveTV Episode 68 – Stop Trying to Eat Right

davetv from Dave Soucy“But I’m trying to eat right, and I’m still not losing weight.” (said with a whiny, nasal voice)

How many times have I heard that? I’ve lost count.

Here’s the deal… If you’re ‘trying’ to do something, then you’re NOT doing it! Enough of this ‘trying’ crap. Suck it up Buttercup, and actually do it.

Eating right, exercising, quitting smoking, cutting back on sugar, whatever. ‘Trying’ is for babies. Grow up and ‘do’.

Even the president doesn’t get off the hook on this. Watch the video to see why.

Most doctors are very smart people. But, the truth is they really don’t know everything.

In spite of that, as a society we’re trained to believe that they DO know everything, and we should do whatever they say.

Well, guess what?

When it comes to exercise, nutrition, and fitness, most doctors don’t know squat. I know people are going to give me grief for saying that, but it’s true. Most doctors don’t know any more about exercise than the average schmo walking down the street.

Watch the video to see how I really feel.

Studies show that 80% of you will at one point or another suffer from low back pain. Obviously, low back pain is not a lot of fun. (Having 2 herniated disks, I know of what I speak…)

But, the good news is that some simple exercises that you can do at home, can help to strengthen those neglected back and core muscles, and help you prevent or relieve low back pain going forward.

This quick video will show you how.

In my previous life I used to have to travel way too much, so I know firsthand what that can do to an exercise routine.

The good news is, I got out of my previous life and now I know how to get in a workout just about anywhere.

This quick video will show you how.
